JCP Live Productions represents the live costumed character appearance rights for childrens television properties.
Over the years Jamey Cohan has represented such characters as Popeye for King Features, G.I. Joe, Transformers and Mr. Potatohead for Hasbro, Shari Lewis Lamb Chop and, from 1988-1999, the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles for Mirage Studios and Surge Licensing. Jamey Cohan also co-produced six productions of the live Bugs Bunny Show, featuring the Warner Bros. cartoon characters and DC Comics superheroes, which toured theatres and arenas internationally for eight years.
The company is currently the licensee for live costumed character appearances of Arthur and Postcards from Buster for Marc Brown Studios, Berenstain Bears and George Shrinks for Nelvana Ltd., Between the Lions for WGBH and Sirius Thinking, Jakers! The Adventures of Piggley Winks for Entara Limited and FETCH! with Ruff Ruffman for WGBH.
These licensed characters appear at major regional malls, retail stores, fairs, festivals, theme parks, expos, parades, sporting events, etc. Considerable advertising and promotion accompany these appearances helping to increase awareness of the properties. In addition to royalties generated for the licensors from fees paid, these appearances are an important stimulus to licensed merchandise sales.
An all encompassing Costume Management Program is also available to licensors to handle the function of storing, maintaining and distributing licensors costumes to television affiliates, retailers, schools, libraries and other licensees of the various properties.
Additionally, Jamey Cohan Productions is actively involved in the design and construction of its licensed costumes. The company also provides this service for other firms in the licensing and toy industries and recently re-designed and built the new Geoffrey costumes for Toys R Us stores internationally.
